The Generations Initiative is a two-year discipleship initiative that asks every person at New City to get before the Lord and ask: "how do you want to work in me in such a way that generations are impacted through me?"

A LETTER FROM NICK
New City,
Since the beginning of our church in 2020, we’ve believed that God’s desire was to renew this city through the power of the gospel. It’s a joy to write that in just a short amount of time, God has already used our church as part of accomplishing that desire!
We have gotten to watch the lives of hundreds of college students, families, and everyone in between transform. The gospel has created a culture where people feel safe and seen here. More and more people are seeing their place in the mission and story of God, and they talk about hearing the gospel for the first time or in a way that’s fresh to their soul.
This “gospel culture” is producing good fruit! We regularly hear stories of:
-
Healing-both emotional and physical.
-
Freedom from addiction and shame.
-
Forgiveness and redemption.
-
Relationships that are only possible if the gospel is true.
And we genuinely believe: God is just getting started here. We want every person in Champaign-Urbana to experience the power of the gospel. It’s why we’re asking the question: God, how do you want us to be part of generations of disciple making here in Champaign?
We want to invite you into the vision with us. As the elders have contended with the Lord in prayer, and we’ve looked at what God has already cultivated in our church, he has birthed a 2 year vision of becoming a city-loving, people-reaching, church-planting church. Our biggest prayer is that The Generations Initiative would be an opportunity for every single person in our church to consider how God wants to do generations of work through them that overflows from the work he does in them.
I’m grateful to be on the journey with you.
Warmly,
Pastor Nick

PRIMARY GOAL:
100% ENGAGEMENT
The Generations Initiative is first and foremost a discipleship initiative. We want every person to seek complete devotion to Jesus and His Kingdom. (Matthew 6:33) Can you imagine what would happen if every single person at New City chose to participate and then grew in generosity? What could we do in Jesus’ name together?

SECONDARY GOAL:
$900,000
This is a one-fund initiative, meaning we are trusting God to provide this amount to cover both our ongoing ministry and our expanded vision over the next two years. Together, these investments will help us pursue our calling as a church - to grow deep generational roots as a city-loving, people-reaching, church-planting church.
GENERATIONS FORMED-$750,000
The heart of this initiative is the kind of people we are becoming. Over the next two years, we want to continue forming a church that faithfully declares the works of God from one generation to the next.
These resources will support our ongoing ministry--investing in weekly worship gatherings, staffing, Villages, generational ministries, leadership development, and the everyday work of discipleship. Through these environments, we are trusting God to form a people whose lives reflect the gospel and who are equipped to pass that faith on to the generations that follow.
GENERATIONS REACHED-$150,000
We also believe God is calling us to establish a lasting presence in this city for the sake of future generations.
These funds will help us pursue our next home for ministry; a place that serves as a hub for worship, discipleship, and mission. A long-term space will allow our church to grow deep roots in the city, expand our ability to welcome and reach people with the gospel, and create a foundation for ministry that will serve generations to come.
NEW CITY'S TWO YEAR VISION:
A CITY-LOVING, PEOPLE-REACHING, CHURCH-PLANTING CHURCH THAT LASTS FOR GENERATIONS.
CITY-LOVING
We don’t tolerate Champaign-Urbana; we love it. (Jeremiah 29:7)

-
We genuinely like this place, its people, and we believe in its redemptive potential.
-
We seek to know the real needs of our city and act like neighbors, not spectators.
-
We are rooted both on the the campus and in the community: families, single professionals,
and longtime residents have a meaningful place here. -
We love the poor and move toward those who suffer.
-
We are not just for our church, but for the Church- encouraging, partnering with,
and celebrating other gospel workers throughout Champaign-Urbana.
PEOPLE-REACHING
Jesus went after people, and so do we. (Luke 19:10)
-
We have a Home and a Hub for Generations of Ministry. Our space is a harbor of hope in our community,
and we pursue long-term financial freedom so we can be laser focused on the mission. -
We see 150 baptisms and 100 baptizers- It’s normal to see ordinary people lead others to Jesus.
-
We cultivate a “Friend of Sinners” culture, marked by truth, grace, hospitality, and courage.
-
Our primary evangelism strategies are relationships, stories, and time.
-
We become a Leadership Development Hub, raising up disciples, leaders, and future pastors.
-
We have a heart for the nations. We live with our “yes” on the table, praying, giving, and going as God leads
CHURCH-PLANTING
God is doing something bigger than us, and we want to be part of it. (Matthew 28:18-20)
-
We prepare and send our first church planting team, taking the blessing of God he’s poured out here,
and share it wherever he calls. -
New City’s fruit would grow in other places and churches.
