Serve In Hospitality

The hospitality team serves New City by fostering a warm environment in which we extend God’s invitation and welcome to all who enter.  In a world full of relational brokenness, we recognize that even a simple act of welcome reflects God’s hospitality and love toward us.  We lean into awkward first meetings and embrace each other as God has first embraced us (Romans 15:7).  We recognize that every person is made in the image of God, and we take God’s command to love our neighbor seriously (Matthew 22:37, Luke 10:27).  That means we acknowledge how hard it can be for someone to come to church, and we eagerly offer a connection point to help first-time visitors feel comfortable and give them a glimpse of God’s care for them.

What Is It Like Serving In Hospitality?

Serving Others With The Love Of Christ

On the hospitality team, we try to do whatever we can to make everyone who enters feel at home.  We set up outdoor flags and welcome signs, make a big pot of coffee, greet and direct people at the front door, and clean up after the second service.  We introduce ourselves to newcomers and connect them to anything they may need during their morning at New City.  As we serve, we hope we will grow in awareness of God’s love for his family and those who seek him.  Because we recognize that God delights in us, we practice stepping outside of our comfort zones to learn to genuinely delight in others as we welcome them.

FAQ

The Answers You Need

There are two roles in which you can be involved on the team:

  1. Team Member - A team member serves 1-2 times per month during a Sunday morning service.  This position involves pre-service setup and post-service clean up.

  2. Coordinator - A coordinator acts as a guide to team members.  Coordinators schedule members to serve each month, and they ensure that team members are equipped and prayed for as they serve.

What are the different roles I can serve in on your team?

You don’t have to be an extrovert or a talkative person to serve in hospitality - God’s family is diverse, and so is our team!  The only real requirement is a commitment to serve and connect with others.

Our team members are scheduled to serve 1-2 times every month at a Sunday morning service.  Those serving at the 9:00am service arrive at 7:30am; those serving at the 11:00am service arrive at 10:30am.  The first service team focuses on setup, while the second service team focuses on clean up.  We expect team members to come on time, with an openness to new friendships and a view of the church as our home.

What are the requirements to join your team?

No!  Both introverts and extroverts are welcome to serve with us.  Serving involves a variety of activities that can be more or less “people intensive.”

Is the hospitality serve team only for extroverts?

All scheduling is done through the Planning Center (a software we use for scheduling).  Within this program, you will have a chance to block out dates that you won’t be available to serve, and you will be scheduled for 1-2 dates per month that you are available.

How does scheduling work?

We do our best to schedule team members to serve at times they are available and comfortable.  If early mornings aren’t for you, just let us know, and we’ll happily schedule you to serve during the later service.

What if I’m not a morning person?  Do I still have to serve at the first service?

Absolutely!  We love having children serve alongside us and value the opportunity to train them in welcoming others.

Can my kids come serve with me?

Yes! We have several team members that do not have a car. We try to schedule people together that can carpool. You can also reach out to any of our coordinators and we will make sure you have a ride!

Can I join the hospitality serve team if I do not have a car?
